Glad I’m not a designer
I just finished up doing the “paste up” (you like my old-school, high school journalism phrase? eh?? come on…I’m funny), for my day-gig’s season brochure. Being a code monkey & a hack designer, I hired my buddy David Gnojek to give me the kick-ass cover and interior design. David did the our design last year after a long standing designer couldn’t do it. Since we are a non-profit, we always (pun intended…get it?) have to look for creative ways to save money, I woke up one day, fell out of bed, hit my head & decided that I should do it on my own….ha!
I'll tell you what, I think I really prefer fighting IE to inDesign. It's a fantastic program, and I asked David to setup the "style sheet" for my web minded mind, but still...
Anyhoo, if anyone actually reads this, and may be a jazz music fan, I'll give you a sneak preview, as it doesn't come out for a week or so. Our season line-up is REALLY exciting!!
Here are some of David's designs, and my "paste up."
As you can see from the second image, we have commissioned Bob Brookmeyer to compose a piece for the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, which he was the music director for in the late 70's-early 80's. I'm pretty much completely pumped up, as most of my favorite jazz musicians will be in town b/c of my work. Well, that and the NEA Jazz Masters Grant we were awarded! ![]()
If you live in Missouri, or Iowa, or Kansas, or Illinois, you should come over for a show....check out: "We Always Swing" Jazz Series, which my buddy Seth Bro built in ExpressionEngine....Basically, I blame Seth for how I am now.
